Fisher-Price announces major product recall
Well known children's toy manufacturer Fisher-price (whose parent company is Mattel) made an announcement in early August 2007 recalling as many as 94,000 of its toys including some of those from the popular Diego, Dora, Sesame Street, Nickelodeon and Lazy Town character-based lines many of which are aimed at children of pre-school ages.
The reason for the recall is due to the concern that the paint used on them may contain lead in excess of the permitted levels. Mattel, who is well known for its attention to safety and who pride themselves on strict quality control levels have already started a thorough investigation into how these toys have hit the shop shelves.
The affected toys were manufactured by a specific contract manufacturer from China and over a very short time scale and were on sale in stores all over the UK and Ireland from May 1, 2007. Mattel have identified the batch numbers of the toys affected and announced the recall themselves as soon as the problem was discovered.

Mattel have said that any customers who have any of these products or any concerns over products they have purchased since May 07 should stop using them immediately, and contact the Fisher-Price UK helpline on 01628 500303 or email helplineuk@mattel.com. The company has offered to replace affected toys with products of similar value.
